A Case of Addison´s Disease

Abstract

|
We have experienced a case of Addison´s disease with crisis, which occured in a 4 years old boy. He was told that he had been shown salt craving unusually and after 4 days of high fever with sore throat, vomiting, gradually fallen to drowsy mental state. The physical examination at admission showed comatous mental state, severe dehydration, low blood presure and dark brown pigmentation, diffusely on the skin especially prominent over elbows, knees and knuckles.
On laboratory findings, Na/K ratio showed significantly lowered value, 21. There was no increment in values of 24 hours urinary 17-Ketosteroid and 17 Ketogenic steroid after ACTH gel injection Chest X-ray film revealed distinctly small heart which return to normal size after treatment.
